We stayed at the Ariston Hotel on the first night of our 2007 Europe trip. The hotel was booked through our AAA agent who did [almost] the entire vacation for us. The hotel was pretty nice, if a bit out of the way.

We had planned on taking the bus from the airport to the hotel, but didn't know exactly where the hotel was relative to the airport, only that it was located in Mestre (a city on the mainland, adjacent to Venice). Turns out, there wasn't a direct bus from the airport to the hotel, and we determined that we had to change buses "at the hospital"; Unfortunately, no one (including the bus driver) knew which stop the hospital was, which left us feeling glad that we were only trying to change buses and not dying or something. In the end, we got off the bus a bit too early, and followed some "hotel this way" signs for a few miles to our hotel. We learned very rapidly that hand luggage was not a good idea, as it was hard to carry alongside our main packs.

The hotel itself was nice and clean; Located in what seemed like a residential neighborhood, the street to the hotel was obstructed by a police academy or something, which you have to go around to get to the hotel. Had we known that earlier, it would have been much easier to find.

The lobby was pretty ordinary, though the elevator was comically small. Becky took the elevator up, while I climbed the stairs. Later, when we didn't have our luggage, we found that we did both fit in the elevator, though it was a bit like a clown car getting out.

The rooms were nice and clean, with crazy high ceilings. The shower head was probably 2.5 meters high.
