Important Note
This desk isn't finished yet, but it will be soon. Check back often!
Physical Configuration
The pedestals (base cabinets below the desk's surface) are designed to acomidate two standard mid-tower PCs and a "workgroup-class" HP printer (think 2000 or 4000 series). One base has a low shelf to set a printer on (so the printer is nearer to the top of the desk) and the other has a higher shelf, to allow PCs to sit lower, so the optical drives are easier to access. On this side, the shelf above the PCs is shallower than the cabinet itself, to facilitate cooling. Both "large" shelves have 18" of vertical clearance.
Features
The featureset for this desk has evolved a bit, since it's taken so long to design and build. I was trying to build more surface area in less space, and ended up with something that looked an awful lot like a very expensive modular desk.
Cables are a constant problem in a computer desk, and to that end, I've left the bases of both pedestals open from the back, so that excess cable can be stored underneath. Additionally, there will be a number (probably 2) 2" or 2.5" grommets in the surface, below the monitor gantry. The grommets will be connected to the pedestals by some 2.5" finger-duct attached to the bottom of the desk's surface.
Materials and Finishes
The desk's surface is made of two sheets of basic 3/4" particle board, glued and screwed together, filled with an Elmer's wood-composite filler compound, and painted grey with an epoxy based floor paint
. Further, there are 4 (3/8-16 thread) T-nuts captured between two the pieces of particle board, with their threads exposed to the bottom to bolt the top onto the pedestals. The particle board has been relieved to make clearance for the nut's "head", so the particle board layers lay flat against each other.
The base pedestals are made of 3/4" MDF, glued, screwed and filled as above, and painted black with a Rustoleum Semi-Gloss latex.

What's with this "MkV" crap?
The "MkV" designates that this is the 5th desk that I've designed for myself. Desks 3 and 4 were never built, but were contributory to this design. Read about my other desks over here.
