For those of you that don't know, Seth and I had done some work last summer building custom RC car parts down in the shop. We've finished one axle design, and are planning on moving on to a more complex design later this month.

To that end, we're likely going to be doing some milling. I ordered some 1-2-3 blocks and an assortment of end mills from Enco this week. Initial tests tonight indicate that my cross-slide vise setup will be rigid enough to get started, but eventually, I'm going to want a real CNC setup. I just have some other projects running right now (like the desk) to get out of the way first.

I also had opportunity tonight to modify the light that I'm using on the mill/drill. I'd had a magnetic mount lamp that came with the lathe, and hadn't been using it, since the Lathe doesnt really need it (and it's huge, compared to the little 7x10). I found a stepped nut off of a bicycle swingarm and set it into the bottom of the workbench. I used a piece of all-thread and a second nut to force it up into an undersized hole, and screwed the lamp mount (a modified capscrew) into that nut, so the lamp is bolted straight to the bench.

To be fair, the bench is much cleaner tonight than it is in that photo; I've done a lot of cleaning in the garage recently, and it's looking pretty good.

In other news, I've begun to pursue HTC to do something about my phone's display issues that the carrier says "are normal wear". More on that soon.
