After the whole chainmail and other armoring incidents (ongoing), I figured that the next logical step was to move into weapons and other trinkets. This page deals with Edged weapons, both "real" (metal blades) and "mock" (Masonite blades, as I had some extra from another project and wanted to practice) Onward to the projects.

Romanesque Dagger

This was my first attempt at "sword" making, based on some diagrams I found over at Legio XX. The blade is made from a single piece of 1/4" Masonite cut to shape, filed to an edge, sanded smooth and painted with silver poof-can. The handle is solid oak, made from scrap flooring (and not quite finished yet). I drilled the slot for the tang from the end, and then cross-drilled for the stainless steel screws to hold the blade in place. Pretty sturdy overall, tho the tang has a tendency to break. Thankfully, Masonite finishes easily, so broken blades aren't that big of a deal.
