Got Twitter?

February 1, 2011

I know I’m usually not into “social networking” types of things, but I’ve recently expanded my use of Twitter.  I initially set it up to get email notifications of Dreamhost downtimes (which they publish only via Twitter), but have been branching out lately.  I started by installing a WordPress module that tweets headlines (which Dan says is sort of annoying), and I’ve even caught myself posting actual twitter type content.

Prior to that, the only “Social Media” service I’ve used is LinkedIn, which is pretty neat just for seeing the “7 degrees” phenomenon.  I wholeheartedly believe that it’s an accurate assessment that “everyone is connected in 7 steps or less”, and that the entire thing relies on “superconnectors”, those individuals that have certain kinds of jobs, such as sales, marketing, PR, news media, and small business owners of almost any kind. The point is that most people are pretty boring and sheltered, but just about everyone has an uncle or cousin or something who’d qualify as a superconnector.
