Everything, All the Time, so it seems…
Wow; It’s hard to believe that I’ve waited “weeks” between posts again. It seems that the convenience of WordPress (over the old Mediawiki) isn’t quite great enough to have content write itself… Seriously though, it’s a massive improvement, if only because it’s a “one stop shop” with no manual updating of indexes. All that said, I have been somewhat slacking in my updates lately. Read on for a listing on some of what you’ve been missing out on around here.Today is Friday, so I’ll go in reverse-chronological order. Yesterday, Becky and I went to see The Adjustment Bureau, a Matt Damon (which I started spelling Daemon) movie based on a Phillip K Dick story. I won’t spend a ton of time paraphrasing the trailer, but I will say that it reminds me of Dark City [a lot].
Wednesday night, Becky and I went for a walk, and decided to head out for dinner, to try out the new-ish cheap-Chinese place Panda Express at 168th and Maple. We’d initially avoided it as a “crappy mall Chinese” place, but she’d had someone recommend it, and it turned out to be pretty good, actually. It served/priced mall-style (that is, two entrées and a side for $x, 3 entrées and 2 sides for $y), but that’s really where the similarities end. The food turned out to be surprisingly good, and Becky was pleased with the availability of Steamed Veggies as a side (instead of rice, for example) .
Also, it was another opportunity to use our Pogo card (Which we got as a Christmas gift). The Card was supposed to be “buy 2 entrées, get 1 free”, but it ended up being “buy one meal get one half-off”, which was about twice the value of the offer marked on the card (a savings of around $3, on a $15ish meal for 2). The other great deal on the Pogo we’ve found is at the Pancheros at Village Point (“Buy a [$2] drink, get a [$5] burrito free”, which seems almost broken)
Tuesday night was the bi-weekly OMG meeting and we had a pretty solid turnout. Things around the Space (aka The Makery, combining Make and Bakery, as it’s a Maker group in an old bakery building) are really shaping up; We’ve got quite a bit of furniture and equipment (The basics are pretty well covered, at the moment) and Internet is finally getting installed in the next day or two.
Monday night, we finally closed on our mortgage refi, taking advantage of low rates to speed the payoff of our house… Ron tells me that when you buy a house (even from yourself) you’re supposed to have a housewarming party; I don’t know if I buy that, though. I’m just glad that the whole mess is done; That said, Wells Fargo on the whole did a pretty fair job of moving things along, once the loan processor(s) got their ducks in a row.
