Acrylic Tablet Stand
Today, I took advantage of some free time and put together a quick-and-dirty stand for my gTablet. The tablet has a smooth, rounded back that doesn’t lend itself well to leaning up against things, and the viewable angle of the LCD (not to mention ergonomics) dictate that laying it flat on a table isn’t ideal for reading.
I’d remembered that I had some scraps of 1/2″ acrylic sheet in the garage, so I set about cutting it into the largest rectangle I could. My cuts could be much better, as all cutting was done with a sawzall, and all shaping done with a few files and sandpaper. Once I had the shapes all cut out, the next thing to do was assembly.

I did some testing on scraps with superglue and it didn’t discolor the acrylic nearly as bad as I’d thought it would. As a bonus, it turned out to be stronger than I’d imagined, with the only surface prep being a bit of scuffing with some sandpaper. Becky suggested that the rear support (which you can’t see in the photo) should be on slides somehow, so that the angle of the tablet is adjustable, but I think that’s a Version 2 feature.
Also, in case this arrangement looks familiar, I was totally thinking of this monitor from Star Trek when I planned my project.
